I was recently told that I am preaching a false "Gospel". Unfortunately, I had to explain that I was not talking about the "Gospel" but teaching a Theological Topic on what we call "Doctrine". This lead me to think that more people do not know what the "Gospel" is. I cannot blame them seeing that entire "Books" are referred to as "Gospels". The Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Luke... Did you realize that Mark and Luke are not apostles? Or are they? Is everything they say "Good News"? Or are they explaining what they experienced?
Many have undertaken to compose an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by the initial eyewitnesses and servants of the word. Therefore, having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you... The "Book" of Luke Chapter 1 Paul explains exactly what the "Gospel" is. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of The Gospel I preached to you, which you received, and in which you stand firm. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of "First Importance": that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures and that He appeared to Cephas and then to the Twelve. After that, He appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles. And last of all He appeared to me also, as to one of untimely birth. For I am the least of the apostles and am unworthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am... I Corinthians 15:1-... Even in this explanation of the gospel, Paul gives too much information for the gospel message but, it is useful for further study. Such as, there were more than twelve apostles because of his statements about Christ appearing to "the twelve", Peter and James and to all the apostles. Did Jesus appear to Judas in the grave? Therefore, to simplify the "Gospel" we need only to teach that Jesus, the Son of God, took our place on the cross as punishment for our sins, He gave up His spirit and died. He was placed in a tomb and on the third day His God and Father raised Him from the dead and exalted Him to His throne in heaven. --- But, thanks to my wife Karla, I believe that the Holy Spirit reminded her that Christ will return to take us to be with Him forever and ever. Amen. This would make a 'simple gospel", The Complete Gospel. ...if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved. Romans 10:9,10 Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, "The Lord knows those who are His," and, "Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness." 2 Timothy 2:19 Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me. Hebrews 1:3 Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Those I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be earnest and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
